The Alzheimer’s Society are a support service available for anyone that is worried about or affected by dementia. They provide information and support for individuals and their families, fund medical and social research and campaign for better quality of life for people with dementia and greater understanding of the condition.

What They Do
Information and advice
The Alzheimer’s Society are a useful first point of contact for anyone dealing with dementia – whether you are worried about dementia, have it yourself, are a family member or carer of someone with dementia or a health/ social care professional. Information can be accessed via their website, publications or the National Dementia Helpline. They provide comprehensive, reliable and up-to-date information about dementia to help people to understand it and empower people to live well with it.

Care and support
They have almost 3,000 community based services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, providing practical and emotional support for people with dementia and their carers. These include dementia advisers and support workers, dementia cafes, day and home support, befriending and carer support groups. They also help others to improve and develop their dementia care practice through training and consultancy and publications for health and social care professionals.

Research
The Alzheimer’s Society are dedicated to defeating dementia through pioneering research and fund an innovative programme of research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia.

Campaigning
They aim to campaign for change that will improve all aspects of care and support.From lobbying to influencing health and social care commissioners to improving public understanding of dementia, they help people to live well in their own homes, residential homes or hospital.
